What Sortpup does

Sortpup keeps your Downloads and Desktop tidy. It waits until files finish downloading, then moves them into sensible folders such as Images, Documents, Installers or Screenshots using ready-made starter rules and your own rules. It can add Finder tags, and anything it isn't sure about goes to a Review folder instead of a wrong place. Every run is saved in History and can be undone. Everything happens on your Mac: no account, no internet connection.

Getting started

  1. Open Sortpup. Quick Sort points at your Downloads folder; click Sort Now.
  2. Want more? Turn on Starter rules in Settings, add your own rules, or create a routine to keep a folder (like the Desktop) sorted automatically.
  3. Check the Review folder now and then, and use Undo Last Sort if you change your mind.

Frequently asked questions

How do I give Sortpup access to a folder (Desktop and others)?

Sortpup runs in Apple's App Sandbox, so it can only use folders you allow. Downloads works right away. For the Desktop or any other folder, choose it when Sortpup asks (or when you add a routine) and click Allow in the Open panel. Sortpup remembers the permission. If a folder was moved or renamed, Sortpup asks you to choose it again.

What is the Review folder?

When Sortpup isn't sure where a file belongs, it doesn't guess: it moves the file into a Review folder inside the watched folder. Sortpup shows how many files are waiting there, and you can sort them yourself. Your own rules run first, so adding a rule keeps similar files out of Review next time.

How do I undo a sort?

Use Undo Last Sort (⌥⌘Z, also in the menu bar) to put every file from the most recent run back where it was. Older runs can be undone from History. Files that were moved or renamed since are left where they are.

How does Downloads cleanup work? Is anything deleted?

It's off until you turn it on in Settings. When it's on, files in Downloads you haven't opened for the number of days you choose are moved to the Trash, about once a day. Nothing is deleted permanently: undo the last cleanup, or use Put Back in the Trash in Finder. Files with a “never sort” tag are skipped.

What is the weekly summary?

An optional local notification that tells you how many files Sortpup sorted in the past week and where they went. Turn it on or off in Settings → Notifications.

Does Sortpup send my data anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your Mac, and Sortpup has no networking features. See the privacy policy.

How do I uninstall Sortpup?

If you turned on opening at login, turn it off in Sortpup's Settings (or System Settings → General → Login Items). Quit Sortpup, including the menu bar icon, then drag Sortpup from Applications to the Trash, or delete it from Launchpad. This removes its sandbox container with your settings and history. Folders Sortpup created, like Images or Review, stay with your files.

Qué hace Sortpup

Sortpup mantiene ordenadas tus Descargas y tu Escritorio.

Primeros pasos

  1. Abre Sortpup. Quick Sort apunta a tu carpeta Descargas; haz clic en Sort Now.

¿Sortpup envía mis datos a algún lado?
